Everton FC Biography

English professional club Everton F.C is located was founded in 1878 is located in the city of Liverpool. The main reason for the formation of club was that people from the parish of St. Domingo's Methodist Church could play a sport in non-summer months. Firstly the club was known as St. Domingo but a year later the club was renamed Everton F.C. In 1988 club become the member of the Football League and within two years they won their first League Championship title in 1890-91. Everton won their first FA Cup title in 1905 and went on to win the League Championship Title again in 1914-15. From there on Everton had average seasons as they were unable to win any major trophies, finally they managed to clinch the League Championship title in 1927-28. In 1930 Everton was relegated to the second division but won the second division title, therefore promoted to the first Division. On their returned to the top flight in 1931-32, Everton wasted no time in reaffirming their status and won a fourth League title at the first opportunity.

In the next season they also won FA Cup title second time with a 3-0 win against Manchester City in the final. Due to the World War 11 all the football league was suspended and when league restarted in 1946 the Everton team had been split-up and paled in comparison to the pre-war club. Everton were relegated again in 1950-51 and did not return until 1953-54, when they finished as runners-up in their third season in the Second Division.

After the appointment of Harry Catterick, as a new manager of Everton in 1961success era started again for them. In the second season in charge as a manager Catterick helped Everton won the League title and this success also followed in 1966 with a 3-2 win in FA Cup final against Sheffield Wednesday. In 1969-70 season Everton won the League Championship nine points clear from runner-up Leeds United. However, the success did not last long for the team as they finished fourteenth, fifteenth, and seventeenth and seventh in the following seasons. Catterick retired but his successors failed to win any championship titles for the remainder of the 1970s.

New manager Howard Kendall took over as an Everton new coach and guided Everton to their most successful era. Everton went on to win the FA Cup in 1983-84 and two league Championship titles in 1984-85 and 1986-87. Everton won their first and only European Cup Winners' in 1984-85. In the process of winning the European Cup Everton defeat several teams firstly University College Dublin, Inter Bratislava and Fortuna Sittard, Everton defeated German giants Bayern Munich 3-1 in the semi-finals, Austrian club Rapid Vienna in the final. Everton were founder members of the Premier League in 1992, but struggled to find the right manager. Everton player Joe Royle took over in 1994 and started to improve as his first game in charge was a 2-0 victory over derby rivals Liverpool.

Royle dragged Everton clear of relegation, and also led the club to the FA Cup for the fifth time in its history, defeating Manchester United 1-0 in the final. Progress under Joe Royle continued as in 1995-96 season Everton finished the premier League on sixth place. In the following season they were unable to maintain their form as the club finished in fifteenth place. Howard Kendall was appointed Everton manager for the third time in 1997, but the appointment proved unsuccessful as Everton finished seventeenth in the Premiership; only avoiding relegation due to their superior goal difference over Bolton Wanderers. Former Rangers manager Walter Smith then took over from Kendall in the summer of 1998 but only managed three successive finishes in the bottom half of the table. Walter Smith was sacked in March 2002 with Everton as they were in real danger of relegation. David Moyes appointed as a new manager and went on to save the club from relegation, in that season club finished on the fifteen place. It was under his management that Wayne Rooney broke into the first team, before being sold to Manchester United for a club record fee of £23 million. Moyes has broken the club record for highest transfer fee paid on four occasions, signing James Beattie for £6 million in January 2005, Andy Johnson for £8.6 million in summer 2006, Yakubu Aiyegbeni for £11.25 million in summer 2007,and Marouane Fellaini for £15 million in September 2008. 2007-08 saw Everton once again gain European football with a fifth place league finish, although they were eliminated from the UEFA Cup prior to the group stages by Standard Liege.

The kit today remains royal blue shirts, white shorts and white socks although when playing teams away who also wear white shorts Everton typically wear all blue. For the 2008-09 season, the away kit is a predominantly white shirt with a navy and grey trim across the chest, accompanied with navy shorts and socks. A third kit was issued consisting of luminous yellow shirt and socks with dark blue shorts, which will also be used as an away kit in European games.
