Born in 28th July 1981 in Wallsend, Michael Carrick is an English footballer, who at present plays for Manchester United as a Midfielder. Previously, he played for West Ham United and then for Tottenham Hotspur. His distinctive features were identified at the time of his move to Manchester United, which included his inventive distribution of the ball and his abilities of crossing and passing the balls. He has so far played thirteen times for the England national team.
Carrick was involved with football when he was five years old. Football became much more serious for him at the age of 12 when he was selected for Boy’s Club of Wallsend. All through his school years until his move to West Ham United, he played as a centre forward. However, at West Ham Carrick began to play as a midfielder. Carrick started his professional career at the notable youth academy of West Ham United in 1998. In 2000-01, he got recognition, and as a result, he was nominated for the PFA young player of the year award. Carrick made his senior debut as a substitute by replacing Rio Ferdinand in a 3-0 win at Bradford in August 1999. In 2004-05, he moved to Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of £2.75 million. On 31st July 2006, Carrick was selected for Manchester United after rejecting an initial bid of 10lb million by United States. He moved to Manchester United for a fee of £18.6 million, and became the fifth costliest player aver acquired by Manchester United. For Manchester United, Carrick wears the number 16 shirt, which was previously worn by the former captain of Manchester United, Roy Keane. However, he made his debut for United on 23rd August 2006, and he sustained an injury against Porto in the Amsterdam Tournament. Carrick played almost every game for United in the season of 2006-07. Carrick scored his first goal for United on 13th January 2007. On 18th April 2008, he agreed to sign a contact of five years along with the defenders Wes Brown and Rio Ferdinand. Carrick made his international debut in May 2005 during the tour of the U.S.A. Moreover, Carrick played in a world cup, in the second match against Ecuador, in which England won by 1-0.
